We’re Having A Party
This year HAI’s annual Membership Picnic is also our
45th Anniversary Party and Barbecue!
This members-only barbecue and picnic – including a vegetarian option – will also be an anniversary celebration. Starting at noon on Sunday September 15, 2013 we’ll meet up at McNears Park, on the Bay in San Rafael. Come relax and hang-out, join us for hand-on-heart, and help celebrate our milestone. It’s sure to be a day filled with hugs, great conversations, connection, comradery, drinks (non-alcoholic only) and great food prepared by some of our favorite HAI grads.
A Bit of History
Way back in mid-August of 1968, (before some of you were born, not as old as some of my neckties) a 39-year-old radio pro named Stan Dale took the huge step to invite his Chicago-area listeners to join him for a weekend of informative, heart-opening, sex-positive celebration that he called “The Sex Workshop”. Stan created something that was part lecture, part exercises, and part sharing. It was an event that helped people explore, experience and talk about this very human, yet very hidden activity – SEX.
From HAI to HAI Global
And thus began HAI’s 45 years-and-counting mission to promote personal growth and social evolution by replacing ignorance and fear with awareness and love. Over the years that singular event has given birth to a series of nine workshops we call the Love, Intimacy and Sexuality Workshops plus 4 couples weekends, mini-workshops, trainings and a variety of events. Since those early days HAI has become HAI Global, bringing workshops to Australia, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Japan, both the East and West Coasts of the US, as well as the US Midwest.

Extraordinary Facilitation
In the beginning Stan worked alone but soon realized the power of having multiple facilitators at front of the room. Over this nearly half-century 18 facilitators have joined Stan and graced our workshops with their wisdom and compassion.
Beginning with Stan’s wife, our beloved Helen Dale, the list includes (in approximately chronological order): April Showers, Sonika Tinker, Floyd Goff, Anne Watts (currently active), Dinyah “Debra” Rein, Richard Enkelis, Peter Rengel (currently active), Tedde Rinker, Chas “Chip” August, Felicia Williams Cosey (currently active), Sarah Sandhill (currently active), Donna Spitzer (currently active), Janet Dale, Barbara Musser, Jason Weston (currently active), and Marci Graham (currently active).
Not Just A Weekend, A Community
As we have added new levels, new locations and new leaders, the HAI community has grown from a couple dozen curious people in a conference/ballroom in Chicago to tens of thousands of HAI grads all over the world. And that community has, in turn, created Community Weekends and Support Groups and Hug Days and countless parties and picnics and intentional housing arrangements and weddings (and funerals), and families within families.
