Ed Gerdes is an immigrant. His mother’s branch of the family is Spanish, coming to the USA through the South. His father’s branch of the family is German, coming to the USA through Ellis Island, NY. He is a licensed lawyer in Oregon and Nevada and an entrepreneur. He has served as Corporate Counsel for one of the largest restaurant companies in the Pacific Northwest. He has also taught at prestigious universities/colleges and served for a time as a legal aid lawyer helping those without resources gain access to justice. He has served on many Boards of Director for tax exempt organizations and helped them raise essential money to reach their goals and grow their organizations.
Ed has been involved with HAI since 2006 and his wife Jane has served as an Assistant at HAI workshops for several years. Ed has two adult children. He volunteers as the Steward of a 10-mile section of the Pacific Crest Trail where he enjoys leading work crews to maintain that national treasure. He enjoys backpacking, paddle boarding, kayaking, gardening, reading, and exercising his right to petition government to better serve all of our citizens, and those who wish to become citizens.
